Products & materials
Learn more about our panels, materials, finishes, and what to expect in real spaces.
What are your wall panels made from?
Our panels are finished with real wood veneer, which is a thin layer of genuine wood applied to the surface of each panel. This gives you the natural grain, texture, and variation of solid wood, without the cost or unpredictability that comes with full solid timber.
Beneath the veneer, the panels use engineered material cores to ensure consistent quality, durability, and easier installation. The result is a panel that looks just as refined as solid wood, while performing better in real homes and projects.
Are your wall panels made from real wood?
Yes. Our wood panels feature real wood veneer, giving them a natural grain, texture, and variation that you don’t get with printed or artificial finishes.
Because wood is a natural material, subtle variations in tone and grain are part of what makes each panel unique.
Are the wall panels suitable for all rooms in the home?
Our panels are suitable for most interior spaces, including living areas, bedrooms, home offices, and hallways.
For higher-humidity areas or specific environments, we recommend checking the product page details or contacting our team to confirm suitability before ordering.
Do the wall panels provide soundproofing?
Some of our panels, such as the Acupanel® range, are designed to help reduce echo and soften sound within a room, improving overall acoustic comfort.
Other panels in our range are purely decorative and are designed to enhance the look and feel of a space rather than its acoustics.
Are the wall panels sustainably sourced?
Yes.
We use wood from sustainably grown forests, and our real wood veneers are sourced with responsible forestry in mind. Sustainability is a core consideration in how we select and produce our materials.
Will the wall panels look the same as they do online?
We do our best to show our panels accurately through photography and customer images, but lighting, screens, and surrounding finishes can affect how colours appear.
That’s why we always recommend ordering samples first, so you can see the colour, grain, and finish in your own space before committing.
Can Acupanel be installed behind or around a fireplace?
In many cases, yes, Acupanel can be installed behind or around a fireplace, particularly with modern fireplaces that have proper heat shielding and controlled heat output.
Many customers have successfully used Acupanel in these applications. As a general guide, we recommend keeping panels at least 300mm away from direct heat sources when installing behind a fireplace.
However, fireplace designs, heat output, and safety requirements vary. For this reason, it’s important to:
- Check the specifications and clearances provided by your fireplace manufacturer
- Ensure the panels are not exposed to excessive heat over time
This guidance should be considered a general reference only. We always recommend doing your own research and confirming suitability for your specific fireplace before installation.
Do the wood panels vary in colour or grain?
Yes, and that’s intentional.
Because our panels use real wood veneer, natural variation in grain and tone is part of the material’s character. This variation adds depth and authenticity to the finished look.
Samples are the best way to understand how a finish will appear in your space.
Are the wall panels decorative or structural?
Our panels are decorative wall panels.
They are designed to enhance the look and feel of a space and are not intended for structural or load-bearing use.
Can the wall panels be cut or trimmed?
Yes.
Our panels can be cut to size using a fine tooth saw (even a handsaw), making it easy to work around power points, edges, and custom layouts. Installation guides provide clear instructions to help you achieve a clean finish.
Are your wall panels suitable for renters?
Yes, many renters use our panels to upgrade their spaces.
If panels are installed using screws, they can usually be removed later. Small screw holes can be filled with putty and painted over when it’s time to move out, leaving the wall looking much like it did before.
Some customers have also had success using heavy-duty adhesive solutions, such as Command™ strips, depending on wall type and panel size. Results can vary, so we always recommend testing a small area first.
As with any wall installation, it’s best to check your lease agreement and confirm with your landlord if required before installing panels.
How do I choose the right wall panels for my space?
Choosing the right panel depends on your space, style, and how you want the room to feel.
Ordering samples is the best place to start. If you’d like guidance, our team can help you compare finishes, colours, and panel types to suit your project.
I have a question about a specific product. Where should I look?
Each product page includes detailed information and FAQs specific to that product, including materials, installation guidance, and suitability.
If you’re looking for answers about a particular panel, the product page is the best place to start. If you still have questions after reviewing the product details, our support team is always happy to help.
Installation & care
Guidance on installing, cutting, and caring for your panels with confidence.
Can I install the wall panels myself?
Our panels are designed to be DIY-friendly, and many customers install them themselves using standard tools. Clear installation guides are available to walk you through the process step by step.
If you’d prefer not to DIY, a qualified tradesperson can also install the panels for you.
What tools do I need for installation?
Most installations can be completed using common tools, such as:
- A fine-tooth saw suitable for cutting panels
- A drill or screwdriver
- A level and measuring tape
Specific tools can vary depending on your wall type and installation method, so we recommend reviewing the relevant installation guide before starting.
Can the wall panels be cut to size?
Yes.
Panels can be cut to fit your space using standard tools. This makes it easy to work around power points, switches, and edges.
Installation guides include tips to help achieve clean, accurate cuts.
What wall types can the wall panels be installed on?
Panels can be installed on a range of wall types, including plasterboard, masonry, and timber walls.
Installation methods may vary depending on the surface, so it’s important to follow the recommended guidance for your wall type.
How are the wall panels fixed to the wall?
Panels are typically installed using screws, panel adhesive, or a combination of both, depending on the product and wall surface.
Our installation guides outline the recommended fixing methods to help ensure a secure and long-lasting result.
How long does installation take?
Installation time varies depending on the size of your space and your experience level.
Many customers complete their installation in a few hours, while larger or more complex projects may take longer. Planning and preparation will help ensure a smoother install.
How do I clean and care for the wall panels?
Panels are easy to care for.
For regular cleaning, use a soft cloth or duster to remove dust. If needed, a slightly damp cloth can be used. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or excessive moisture.
Can the interior wall panels be used in high-humidity areas?
Some panels are suitable for areas with humidity, while others are better suited to dry interior spaces.
We recommend checking the product page details or contacting our team before installing panels in bathrooms, laundries, or other high-humidity environments.
Will the panels fade or change over time?
Because our panels use real wood veneer, subtle changes in tone may occur over time, particularly with exposure to natural light.
This is a natural characteristic of real wood and contributes to its warmth and authenticity. If you’d like to refresh or deepen the colour in the future, the veneer accepts wood oils very well. Some customers choose to apply a Danish oil to darken the finish and enhance the natural grain over time.
As with any wood finish, we recommend testing on a small, inconspicuous area first.
What should I do if I need help during installation?
If you have questions before or during installation, our team is here to help.
You can refer to our installation guides or contact customer support for advice before proceeding.
Samples & choosing panels
Use this section for any descriptive text you need to fill out your pages or to add introductory headings between other blocks.
Can I order samples?
Yes, absolutely.
Ordering samples is the best way to see the colour, finish, and quality in your own space before committing. You can order samples directly from each product page, and they ship fast from our local warehouse.

How big are the samples?
Samples are designed to give you a clear view of the colour, grain, and finish so you can confidently compare options.
For a more accurate idea of size have a look at the pictures on our sample product pages.
Will samples look exactly the same as the full panels?
Samples are just small section cut from the larger panel. This ensures that they accurately represent the colour, finish, and wood grain of the full panels.
Because wood is a natural material, some variation in grain and tone is normal and part of the final look when panels are installed at scale.
How long do samples take to arrive?

Once dispatched, you’ll receive tracking details so you know when to expect delivery. Usually delivery takes between 2 and 3 days from the order date depending on where you are in New Zealand.

Samples are not refundable.
Trade customers with an approved WVH Pro account receive free samples as part of their trade benefits.
How many sample boxes should I order?
This depends on your space and how confident you feel choosing a finish.
Many customers order a few options to compare tones in different lighting. If you’re unsure, our team can help you narrow down the best choices for your project.
